Pass Plus
FACT:
Did you know? EVERY day in Britain, 2 under 25’s die in road accidents!
Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident within their first two years of driving than at any other time in their driving career. Therefore, the Driving Standards Agency (DVSA) came up with PASS PLUS.
PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers. You can take it anytime within the first 12 months of passing your test. It is much more than just a few extra lessons. This course has been specially designed by the DVSA, with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.
It is a six module training syllabus covering the following areas:
|
This syllabus will help you:
- gain valuable driving experience safely – you will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, many of which you probably will not have faced before
- build on your existing skills and knowledge – it can take years to become a skilled driver. PASS PLUS helps get you there by speeding up the learning process under expert tuition
- reduce your risk of being in a road traffic accident – the course will help boost your awareness of all kinds of hazards and help you learn how to anticipate, plan and deal with them safely
- boost your confidence – if you feel nervous driving on your own, then PASS PLUS training can help you become more confident on the roads
- save money on your car insurance – a number of insurers offer motor insurance benefits to car drivers who have successfully completed their PASS PLUS
- give peace of mind to your loved ones
The course can be completed with as little as 6 hours training. All of which can only be done once you have passed your driving test. There is no test at the end of it – your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:
- achieved – successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies
- exceeded – exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies
In exceptional circumstances, if a module can not be done on the road it will be covered in a theory session. The highest level you can reach is ‘achieved’ as you have not been able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills.
You are assessed throughout and your progress fully recorded until all modules have been completed. The DVSA then issue successful pupils with a Certificate of Completion which is used to qualify for the benefits offered by the insurance companies.
If you passed your test more than a year ago, you should check with the insurance company that you will be eligible for the benefits on offer. Also, if you have not yet found your perfect first car then do not worry, some insurance companies may be able to defer the benefits for up to 2 years.
